Abstract

Aim: The present study aimed to report a clinical case of necrotizing gingivitis, as well as the treatment and follow-up for 2 years, in an adolescent patient. Case report: The examinations revealed the presence of lesions located in the interdental papillae and gingival margin covered by yellowish-white pseudomembranous necrotic epithelium, with a foul odor, spontaneous bleeding, gingival tissue with a shiny and reddish appearance, large accumulation of bacterial biofilm on the dental surfaces and absence of bone loss. Initial treatment consisted of supragingival scaling, prescription of 0.12% chlorhexidine digluconate mouthwash, oral hygiene guidance and strict follow-up. Conclusion: At the end of the treatment, an improvement in the clinical condition was observed without the need for corrective surgeries.
