Abstract

Objective: The main goal of the present work is to analyze what is found in the literature regarding the osseointegration of implants in children and adolescents, as well as to incorporate the role of implant dentists in pediatric dental treatment as something viable. Material and Methods: The review was written under the light of twenty articles, selected according to the theme and applicability to the research, between 1993 and 2020, found on the Google Academic and Pubmed platforms. Results: The research was based on articles in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. There was agreement among the authors on the importance of factors such as gender, bone maturation level, and implant location being considered, as well as those planned by a multidisciplinary team consisting of a pediatric dentist, an implant dentist, and an orthodontist, before installing the implants. Conclusion: The use of implants in children and adolescents should be postponed, if possible, until bone maturation, except in specific cases, such as ectodermal dysplasia.
